Which base?

Understanding the base styles available

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is “can you explain the base options?” So this short blog will detail the options available throughout all the historical Naval wargame model ranges that I have.

One of the main goals of Thousand Worlds is to give customers the freedom to pick their models how they want. And the base options try to reflect this.

Bases at a glance, here we’ll see the differences in heights between the bases.

Plinth: 5mm

Small Plinth: 3mm

Tab: 3mm

Small Tab: 2mm

The First base option is… none! you don’t have to have a base if you don’t want. Regardless of the scale, we’ll supply it without a base if that is what you want, even tiny 1/6000 scale corvettes!

Next Base option is the Tab base.

Tab bases have a lower tab at the rear of the base that can be used for the ships name.

In larger scales (1/3000 and above) the tab base has a more rounded front edge as well as standing taller than thinner more squared version for 1/4800 and 1/6000 scales.

But as always, if you would prefer your 1/1800 scale ships to be on the thinner squarer version, send us an email with your order and we’ll do that.

Small Plinth

The first of two types of plinth bases. The Small Plinth has a more rounded front and rear and is a bit thinner than the Plinth base.

The Small Plinth base can have the ships name (or anything else you want that can fit into the space) embossed on the sides.

The Small Plinth is most similar in outline to the bases of Victory at Seas (another frequent question!)

The final base option is the first one we released. The Plinth base. This is a large rectangular base with rounded edges.

As with the Small Plinth the name (for example) can be embossed on the sides of the Plinth base

What’s in a name?

Whichever style of base you choose, remember that you can always email us to ask for whatever you want embossed on the base, or have them plain. The choice is entirely yours! If it can fit within the space available we’ll emboss what you want… as long as it isn’t hate messages or ancient curse that’ll bring a rain of frogs down upon us!

I’ve tried to enable comments on this blog post, so any questions please feel free to ask!
